Presidents
When it comes to presidents, eight of our forty-five presidents have been left handed. This is somewhat more than would be expected considering that left handers are only about ten percent of the population.
We did not have a left-handed president until James Garfield who was the twentieth president. As time has gone on though, the presidency has taken a turn to the left. As of this writing, four of the last six presidents have been left handed. Here is a list of the left handed presidents of the United States.
- James A. Garfield (#20)
- Herbert Hoover (#31)
- Harry S. Truman (#33)
- Gerald Ford (#38)
- Ronald Regan (#40) (a natural lefty converted to right handed writing)
- George H.W. Bush (#41)
- Bill Clinton (#42)
- Barack Obama (#44)
